Extroverts and Introverts
Everyone needs time all by themselves. We all need to be alone sometimes.
Some people need more alone time than other people. These people are called “introverts.”
Introverts are comfortable going to restaurants alone or being by themselves for a long time. They get energy from being away from other people.
Being in a crowd takes a lot of energy for introverts.
But many people are not like that. There are those that love crowds and get a lot of energy from interacting with others.
These people are called extroverts. Extroverts spend a lot of time with other people, and they love it.
For extroverts, however, it is more difficult to spend time alone. For them, it takes a lot of energy to be away from people.
Basically, the difference between extroverts and introverts is where they focus. Extroverts focus outward. Introverts focus inward.
So the question is, are you an extrovert, or are you an introvert?
But, maybe the answer is, neither. Maybe you are somewhere in the middle: you need both alone time and time with people. Maybe both of these give you energy.
Maybe you’re an ambivert. Most people are either introvert or extrovert, but you could be in the middle.
But, whether you are an introvert, extrovert or ambivert, it is important to have a balance of time with and without people.
Introverts need friends, although maybe they will have a small group of friends.
And even though it is often uncomfortable or sad, extroverts need time alone.
Alone and social time are both important for everyone because we all need to know ourselves and other people.
